OGDEN FAMILY

The ancestral line of the Ogden family of Cumberland County, New Jersey has been traced to Robertus Okedon, of Nutley, Hampshire, England, 1453. David Ogden, son of John and Mary (Diament) Ogden, was born in 1707 in Fairfield Township, Cumberland County, New Jersey. He owned the Fairton Mill, which stood near where the railroad crosses the stream, and in 1759, built the dam along where the present road crosses, to keep out the tide. This mill property passed into the hands of David Clark, who sold it to John Trenchard, who moved it to its present location. David married Hannah Dayton and they had eleven children. They spent their lives in Cumberland County.
